Firsts! is an exhibit celebrating the foundation of our new talent development agency – 22blocks.
We present exclusive limited editions and collectables created by award-winning contemporary artists Iva Troj and Seiko Kato.
Limited Editions by Iva Troj: Award-winning contemporary artist Iva Troj creates fine art pieces which seamlessly merge Renaissance aesthetics and techniques with postmodern praxis. Her intensely detailed images achieve astonishing tricks of light and shade, as practised by the great masters.
Three-dimensional Works by Seiko Kato: Seiko Kato is a rare combination of two worlds. She is a Japanese artist who finds her inspiration in old Victorian drawings, encyclopaedias and Victorian paraphernalia and creates works of unprecedented precision exploring her native Japanese culture and her newfound Victorian heritage.
Award-winning contemporary artist Iva Troj is exhibiting her work in collaboration with 22blocks in Brighton, UK. Troj’s intensely detailed images achieve astonishing tricks of light and shade, as practised by the great masters. Link to artsy.net >

Troj’s intensely detailed images achieve astonishing tricks of light and shade, as practised by the great masters while incorporating dreamlike scenes which challenge cultural norms. Exhausted by a society in which women often feel vulnerable, threatened, or powerless, Troj recasts the fairer sex as powerful creatures, freed from the oppressive male gaze and placed within Edenic settings where they can revel in their own beauty and potential. Blending abstraction with figuration, the natural world with the urban landscape, dream with reality, Troj’s breathtakingly beautiful artworks achieve something truly unique, both in terms of aesthetics and concept.
In 2016, Troj was named Contemporary Art Excellence Artist of the Year and, in 2013, was the winner of the Towry Best of East England Award. She has exhibited both nationally and internationally and is permanently represented in Brighton and Shoreditch, London.
Mazcan is widely known for her mural work. Her powerful female portraits can be found along many of the backstreets of Brighton. The photorealistic faces she masterfully paints are framed with graphic and bold hairstyles, their soft skin tones contrast with the bold colours of the hair creating breathtaking images that complement the contours of the city and enrich the experience of Brighton’s public spaces. Complementing the environment around it, bushes and trees are sometimes incorporated as an additional natural crown or hairstyle.
French artist, Mai-loan TU started her career in Belgium where she learned creative illustration at the Erg -école de recherche graphique (School of Graphical Research ), then she pursued her studies in Barcelona at the Eina Centre Universitari de Disseny i Art de Barcelona. After exhibiting in Venezuela, France and Spain, where she won the Drawing prize at the International Fair of Contemporary Art SWAB in 2012, she moved to Ho-Chi-Minh City, Vietnam, where she exhibited and worked as a tattoo artist. She lives and works in Brighton, UK since 2017 and is currently focusing on the practice of stained glass and exploring its potential within a contemporary context.

New work on SaatchiArt > View Iva Troj’s new work
We are truly excited about this! Emma Oakman and I are joining forces with the wonderful Ideas Lab in Brighton and it’s a collaboration that is also a maker’s dream far beyond sharing exhibition space and setting up camp with our easels, paints, etc. The plan is to spread our beloved gadgets and appetite for experimentation across several venues and offer workshops and access to a makers club complete with all sorts of tech for moulding, casting, printing, etc.
This new joined venture was officially christened (pardon the Christmas pun, sugar and dad jokes overload is to blame) with a collaborative exhibition featuring a host of super awesome local artists. The new makers club will officially open in the new year.

Hi-Fructose Magazine feature on Iva Troj:
“Iva Troj’s paintings break the mold of Renaissance style beauty”.
“Though Iva Troj’s paintings share the sensibility and feminine grace present in Renaissance era art, her work is informed by her modern point of view. Growing up in the outskirts of Plovdiv, Bulgaria, the now UK-based artist was faced early on with male dominance in a communist country. She often expresses admiration for women artists like Italian Baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi, whose mere existence was seen as problematic, while men at the time were painting women to look like dolls.”
